Choose the Path That’s Right for You
From January 1st, 2026, you’ll notice something new when you visit the Monster Phonics shop. When you click into the shop, you’ll be able to choose the version of Monster Phonics that best fits your school — Classic or Universal.
The Classic edition is the much-loved original Monster Phonics you know:
Features the original characters like Tricky Witch and the Silent Ghosts
Keeps the imaginative elements that children already know and love
Supports complete continuity for schools already using the scheme
It’s the same scheme, the same resources — everything your children and staff already know and enjoy.
Nothing is changing here.
The Universal edition is a gentle visual update designed to ensure every school can feel fully at home with Monster Phonics:
Tricky and the Silent Monsters have been simplified visually (but still play exactly the same role in teaching)
Inspired by global storytelling and inclusive design
A warm, welcoming choice for schools that prefer a more neutral or culturally sensitive visual approach
This update makes good on our promise to schools back in the summer to continue offering the much-loved Classic resources while also creating new options for Universal schools.
It reflects one simple idea:
Every school deserves a version of Monster Phonics that fits them.

One final update on books: single book ordering is now open! You told us you’d love the option to order individual books — and we have listened! If you’d like a quote for a specific title, just get in touch.
Monster Phonics is unique in offering hook videos to engage children during lessons. We now provide two versions:
The Universal video plays by default
The Original Video tab lets you access the Classic version
This honours our commitment to both pathways and gives every school the option that suits them best.
Thank you for reading the Mash – we appreciate your support.
Wishing you all the very best for this busy time in schools.
