15th May; Monster Mash

A big hello from the Monster Phonics team

This month, we are sharing a new tool to support book placement, a smoother way to move children on the tracker, new classroom bundles, and some exciting news from Wales.

Proud to be growing in Cardiff

Monster Phonics is proud to be working with Cardiff Council on an ambitious three-year literacy initiative to strengthen early reading and help reduce the reading disadvantage gap across the city.

The initiative builds on our existing work with Cardiff schools and follows a successful independent Welsh longitudinal study in 2023 to 2024, involving 10 schools, which showed strong progress for children, including those with lower starting points.

Ingrid Connors, Founder and CEO of Monster Phonics, said:

“This means a great deal to us. Monster Phonics was created with one clear purpose: to help every child become a confident, successful reader, whatever their background, starting point or school.

Cardiff’s ambition to build a more inclusive and consistent reading journey across the city is exactly the kind of work we want to support.

We look forward to working alongside Cardiff schools, teachers and leaders over the next three years, helping to build confidence, strengthen early reading practice and give more children the strongest possible start.”

Book Placement Tool now live

Following the launch of our Word Builder Tool earlier this year, the new Book Placement Tool is now live within Monster Phonics.

The tool follows the Monster Phonics progression and helps teachers quickly check whether a child is reading within the right book level.

The aim is simple: a fast, practical tool that helps teachers make confident decisions without adding workload.

End of year made easier

Thank you for the feedback that continues to shape our platform. A recent example is the new “Move Children” feature within the Online Assessment Tracker.  Under Setup – Edit Class, schools can now move individual children, groups of children, or whole classes more easily.

This should make the end of year process much smoother. We will also be sharing a short walkthrough video shortly to help schools make the most of the new features.

Tools that Teach – Bundles of Bundles

We have also launched a new range of classroom bundles, bringing together some of our most popular teaching resources and practical classroom tools. Many schools use this time of year to prepare for September, so do take a look if you are planning ahead.

We always enjoy seeing our monsters, magnetic letters and classroom resources arrive in schools around the world.
