The cast your children already know head off across Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, New York, Australia and Wales. They join a dragon boat festival, dive the Great Barrier Reef, and visit a Welsh castle for storytelling.
Each of the 14 decodable books is anchored to a single focus sound (k/ck, oi, oa, ew, ear, le and more), so they slot straight in as extra reading for graphemes you have already taught. No new planning, just more mileage on the sounds that matter.
These are built into the Universal resources, and because we have always promised Classic schools the same, you will find the international titles using the Classic characters on the link below. Do add them to your collection whenever you like.
For our schools in England, the Check is coming up in the weeks ahead, as you will know only too well!
We know how much thoughtful teaching sits behind this week, so we want to wish you and your children the very best. There is support in place too: every past Phonics Screening Check is on the tracker, with further guidance in the resource hub.
Teaching internationally? Many overseas schools use screening style assessments too, so do take a look at the resources.
We are always responding to your thoughts on Monster Phonics, and it makes for a great collaboration. Here are a few changes we have made to the Online Tracker.
For class and cohort views of your data, you can now see results two ways:
Summary for the overview across one or more assessments.
Heatmap to zoom into a single assessment and spot gaps fast.
We have made these outputs neater, tidier and easier on the eye, including a new on-screen heatmap. The version that exports to Excel is now much clearer to use too.
If you have points for us, just let us know.
Alongside the Word Builder tool, we are building a new Flashcards tool: a fast, no-prep way to revisit graphemes, words and key learning, on the board or in children’s hands. Many of you have asked us to turn these into apps as well, and we will. Good digital tools take a little time to get right, so we will let you know the moment they are ready.
Warm wishes,
The Monster Phonics Team
