Dear Teacher
We recently provided parents at your school with 2 months of free access to Monster Phonics
in lockdown. Your parents have seen excellent progress in phonics. If your school wishes
to subscribe, parents can continue to access resources at home throughout the rest of the term.
We hope that you will find the following information useful when considering purchasing a phonics scheme and matching phonics books.

3. Improving results, including helping parents at home
We plan to run a number of these webinars over the coming weeks to help transition from home learning to teaching back into school. The first sessions are planned for June 10th and 11th.

What are Challenges of Traditional Phonics?
The 26 letters of the alphabet and combinations of these letters make 44 speech sounds in English. The 44 sounds (phonemes) are spelt by 144 different letter combinations (graphemes). For example, the sound A is spelt 5 different ways ay (play), ai (train).
Traditional ways of learning to spell can be time-consuming and for some children they are ineffective.
How does Monster Phonics improve progress?
Monster Phonics uses colour to help children learn the link between sound and spelling. This significantly improves progress, helping children to read with confidence.
Monster Phonics uses the 10 monsters to categorise all sounds into 10 simple areas. Furthermore, each monster has a different colour and that colour also represents the sound. This means children can recognise the monsters and the colour associated with the sound, which helps them spell, read and write. The use of monsters and the games associated with Monster Phonics ensures Monster Phonics is a fun and engaging way to learn, further accelerating the speed of learning for all. Children make the most progress when reading is aligned to the phonics programme that is being taught.
