This year, World Book Day 2023 took place on Thursday 2nd March. Since it was first celebrated 25 years ago, the day has grown to become an essential calendar fixture for schools and their communities. It provides a fantastic opportunity to focus on reading for pleasure and for children to truly discover and foster a love for reading. This year’s focus was all about ‘Read, Grow & Inspire’ and it was amazing to see all the incredible ways Monster Phonics Schools celebrated World Book Day 2023.

How Schools Got Involved

Across the United Kingdom, teachers and children dressed as their favourite Monster Phonics characters for World Book Day. Some were spotted posing with the cuddly phoneme monster toys, one of our many multi sensory learning resources. Classrooms were transformed into magical storybook worlds and children were engaged in a wealth of exciting Monster Phonics inspired activities.

Children spent their day searching for Green Froggy rhyming words, making delicious monster food, reading Monster Phonics books and even participating in monster dancing!

Schools also put our 2023 World Book Day activity pack to good use, using their imagination to design their own book covers and write all about their favourite monsters. There was a buzz of excitement at Huttoft Nursery and Primary School who received a visit from our friendly monsters all the way from Monster Phonics Land.

It is wonderful to see how the Monster Phonics characters and teaching resources can inspire and enhance the World Book Day celebrations to create that engagement which is so vital to developing a love for reading and literacy. We look forward to more monster-filled adventures to engage and ignite future learning.
