Phase 2 Tricky Words

By grouping words by sound and colour they are much simpler to learn. Miss Oh No colours graphemes that make the O sound pink. She is a pink monster and makes the O sounds. She helps children to learn to spell works that have these sounds.

We explain to children that the tricky part of ‘the’ is the ‘e’ sound. It is making a different sound to what has been taught. We say that Tricky Witch has cast a spell on the letter ‘e’ to make a different sound. We colour code these tricky graphemes gold.
