Why did we move to Monster Phonics?

As a school, we concluded other schemes were not structured, consistent or engaging enough for our children. Monster Phonics provides us with a complete Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme which enables us to teach Reception and Key Stage 1 children with all essentials required. It allows us to create a love for learning which is fun, engaging and taught with a multi-sensory approach.

Impact on Results

Monster Phonics supports long-term memory prompts and metacognition, as a school we believe this is exceedingly important for our children to engage and learn. Our children love Monster Phonics, the high impact on results is shown below:

Impact on Teaching

The staff believe the professional support, intervention resources, eBooks, soft toys, decodable books, CPD and other resources are of high quality and are effective. They love the multi-sensory planning and open opportunities to create our own resources and ideas. Staff find it easy to implement Monster Phonics into other areas of the curriculum. As a school we have experienced good support and engagement from parents/carers, children are further developing their knowledge and love for Monster Phonics at home. In addition, this has a huge impact on the teaching of phonics in school.

Impact of Monster Phonics overall

Our children, staff and parents love the scheme! We have experienced an astounding change in children’s confidence when engaging with phonics, specifically reading. Our children have embedded the Monsters and their phonemes into everyday school and home life, even incorporating phonics into their games on the playground!
