Jack Coll, Assistant Principal talks about Monster Phonics

Recording Transcript

So, hi, I’m Jack Coll, Assistant Principal at Humberton Cloverfields. And we have currently been following Monster Phonics for three years now. So we’re in the kind of final stage of the Embed Stage. So what we’ve done is we’ve worked really hard with the mnemonics and the resources that Monster Phonics have given us, that provides great enjoyment for the children.

The children love the monsters. They love the mnemonics that go with it, the flashcards and the stories and the apply activities can be very creative, which really inspires them to carry on doing the activities and it’s embedded well with our children. So when the children read, they know the colours mean specific things, but then they learn from those memory skills. They’re now using it in black and white print and they remember those stories, to be honest, sometimes even more than me!

So it’s real enjoyment of making multi-sensory phonics for the children and ensuring that actually, learning to read is the most fun thing ever!
